BUTANO CREEK GIRL SCOUT CAMP

archery Range

useful information for the archery range staff

This page is a repository for our collective knowledge about the Camp Butano Creek archery range.
  • General Archery Supplies (check inventory first):
    • Vanes (white, green, yellow, orange)
    • Glue (ECHO recommends NPV Arrow Mate Cement)
    • Arrows.  We use primarily (TBD) inch arrows but we have a set of longer ones for the extra long bows.  Our arrow shaft colors are as follows:
      • greenish gold
      • orange
      • blue
      • purple (two lengths - need to measure)
      • purple with silver designs (two lengths - need to measure)
    • Arrow rests
    • Hair ties
    • Spray paint to spray the lines (red-shooting line, yellow-waiting line, green-retrieval line)
    • Targets (we use the waterproof 80 cm targets)
    • Wrist Rocket Targets
    • Misc stuff to put up on targets - there is a box of this stuff already.  If you want to have campers shoot at balloons, a pack of 12 per unit shooting that day is a good number to purchase.
    • Fabric staples to hang stuff on targets (4" works best - thinner but still long enough to hold)
  • Pony beads, year charms, and pins for last day prize
  • Night Archery
    • The archery staff light up the range; unit staff light up their staff/campers.
    • Existing equipment:
      • 2 solar powered multi-colored rope light
      • 1 D-battery powered rope light
    • Purchase each summer (per session)
      • 50 long (22") glow sticks
      • 150 short (8") glow sticks
      • 50 lighted balloons for targets
  • Field Archery (Landlovers)
    • We usually rent the archery equipment from Cresta Blanca.  Please use camp arrows when possible.  If you lose/damage a CB arrow, please replace it with a camp arrow.
    • Confirm that we have the gate code for King's Mountain Archery.
    • Ten hip quivers are kept with the archery equipment for this trip.
    • If you want to brush up on the rules for field archery (some girls ask), here is a great source.
  • For wrist rockets, sometimes we use our own, sometimes we rent them from Cresta Blanca.  Here is a good video that shows how to replace the bands when they break.
  • Here is the sign that should be posted on the Big Trees Trail
